- Administrative or Biographical History: Sir William Drake represented the borough of Amersham both in the Long and Short Parliaments but took no active part in the Civil War nor in the Interregnum years. He was Chirographer in the Common Pleas, 1652-1659, Commissioner for Defence for the Midland Association in 1642, Justice of the Peace for Buckinghamshire, 1647-1653 and from 1661 to his death in 1669. Also Commissioner for Militia in 1648 and Deputy Lieutenant, 1660-1661. Although Drake resumed his seat in February 1660, he is not known to have stood at the general election, but he was returned to Parliament in 1661, after the Restoration of Charles II to the throne.
