- Administrative or Biographical History: Lord Wakehurst was a clerk in the Foreign Office from 1919 to 1921. He later sat for East Leicester as a Conservative MP from October 1924 to to May 1929, when he was defeated. He was subsequently elected for the Lewes division of Sussex in October 1931 where he sat until April 1936 when he succeeded to the Peerage as Baron Wakehurst. He was Governor of New South Wales from 1937-1946 and Governor of Northern Ireland from 1952-1964.

- Description: This collection contains various papers including press cuttings on the general election (1922) and in particular concerning John de Vere Loder's constituency of East Leicester; the collection also includes papers relating to his time as Governor of Northern Ireland, some general political papers, working copies of some of his publications and Journals of his travels in North Africa, Australia, South America, the Far East and Canada.
