- Administrative or Biographical History: Sir George John Talbot (1861-1938), barrister and judge of the King's Bench, was the nephew of Bishop E S Talbot and the father of Mr. T G Talbot, QC, Counsel to the Chairman of Committees. Sir George was called to the Bar in 1887, and became KC in 1906. Until late in his career at the Bar his practice was mainly before Parliamentary committees and in work of a similar character - for example, in the Railway and Canal Commission Court. He was also an ecclesiastical lawyer, Chancellor of six dioceses and Counsel to the University of Oxford, 1915-1923. In 1923 Talbot became a Judge of the King's Bench Division. He resigned in 1937. He was Fellow and for a time Sub-Committee-Warden of Winchester College.
