- Administrative or Biographical History: Robert Spence Watson founded the Newcastle Liberal Association, and was its president, 1874-1897. He was also president of the National Liberal Federation, 1890-1902. John Morley was Liberal MP for NewcastleonTyne, 1883-1895, and for Montrose Burghs, 1896-1908.

- Description: The papers of Robert Spence Watson consist of a series (RSW/1) of letters from John Morley, MP, mainly to Robert Spence Watson and a series (RSW/2) of miscellaneous letters and papers. The correspondence from John Morley includes personal letters; and, letters regarding general and Newcastle political matters. There are a number of family papers within RSW/2.
