- Administrative or Biographical History: King William III had appointed Aubrey de Vere, Earl of Oxford as Speaker in the House of Lords as well as to act as Lord Keeper, on Thursday 1 August 1700, in the absence of Sir Nathan Wright, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal. Letters patent were issued by the King on Thursday 18 September revoking this appointment and Sir John Holt, Knight and Chief Justice appointed temporary Lord Keeper in his place.
