- Administrative or Biographical History: Ernest Brown was Liberal MP for Rugby from Dec 1923 to Oct 1924 when he was defeated. He was elected for Leith in March 1927 until he was defeated in 1945. He was a Liberal until 1931 and thereafter a Liberal National. He was Minister of Labour from June 1935-May 1940, Secretary of State for Scotland (May 1940-Feb 1941), Minister of Health (Feb 1941-Nov 1943) and Minister of Aircraft Production (May-July 1945).
